Fabriano's Historic Cartiere Miliani Reopens with Permanent Installation

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The historic Cartiere Miliani Fabriano paper mill complex in Fabriano, Italy, has reopened to the public until November 17, featuring the permanent installation 'A Wonderful Journey.' Originally a temporary exhibit during the XIII UNESCO Creative Cities Conference in June, the installation spans 2,000 square meters and showcases the mill's extraordinary heritage: 1,500 watermarks, 1,200 historical photographs, a library of over 3,000 volumes, and 10,000 tools and machines for handmade paper production. The reopening marks the participation of Fondazione Fedrigoni Fabriano in the XVIII Settimana della Cultura d'Impresa, promoted by Confindustria and Museimpresa. The current event, 'In and Out of Paper,' curated by Umberto Giovannini and the Opificio della Rosa, features large-scale graphic installations by artists Gianna Bentivenga and Maria Pina Bentivenga, with staging and shadows by Anusc Castiglioni and lighting by Massimo Zanelli. The visitor route begins at the Archivio Storico delle Cartiere and follows the river to the Deposito dei Beni Storici Cartari, previously closed to the public. Visits are guided and require reservation.
