Fabio Viale's Monumental Sculptures in Versilia
Fabio Viale (Cuneo, 1975) presents his sculptural work in a dual event in Pietrasanta. At the former Fonderia d'Arte Luigi Tommasi, a selection of sculptures continues the exhibition at Forte dei Marmi, while at Stargate, a new work titled "Stargate" transforms a humble fruit crate into a monumental marble portal, inviting viewers to walk on it. Viale's practice combines hyperrealism with classical references, carving marble into off-road tires with tread wear marks, and covering kouros figures with Soviet prisoner tattoos. His Venus (2017) bears fragments of medieval frescoes recalling the Triumph of Death, juxtaposing beauty with the macabre. The artist's technique echoes Michelangelo's late Renaissance monumentality, pushing the limits of material and concept.
