Fabio Sgroi's Past-Euphoria Maps Post-Soviet Europe

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The exhibition 'L’Europa del post' at Galleria X3 in Palermo presents Fabio Sgroi's photographic project Past-Euphoria, initiated in the 1990s. Sgroi (Palermo, 1965) documents memory and daily life across post-communist Central and Eastern Europe, including Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and especially Germany. His lens captures the unresolved identity tensions and broken promises of democracy from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the formation of the European Community. The work maps failed dreams and tautologies, reflecting a present that ignores the past and foreshadows new frontiers. The exhibition is curated by Giusi Affronti (Palermo, 1985), an art historian and curator based in Milan and Palermo.
