Fabio Sargentini Receives Premio Pascali at Fondazione Pascali

award · 2026-05-04

Fabio Sargentini, the legendary Roman gallerist born in 1939, was awarded the Premio Pascali at the Fondazione Pascali in Polignano a Mare, fifty years after the death of Pino Pascali. The prize coincides with his exhibition 'My Way', featuring large-scale photographs of his most important shows at L'Attico, including works by Pascali, Jannis Kounellis, Gino De Dominicis, Simone Forti, Mario Merz, and Robert Smithson. In an interview with Lorenzo Madaro, Sargentini reflects on his relationships with these artists, noting his warm bond with Pascali and De Dominicis contrasted with the coldness of Kounellis. He recounts the famous 1969 exhibition with live horses, chosen by himself, which lasted three days and drew only about thirty attendees due to a storm in Rome. Sargentini also discusses the influence of Pascali's 'white sea' on his own flooded gallery and garage projects. He mentions placing Pascali's 'Ponte' at MoMA and plans a new show in his gallery in March, in a room damaged by a collapsed ceiling that revealed a patch of painting.
