Fabio Mauri Retrospective at GAMeC Bergamo
GAMeC Bergamo presents a solo exhibition of Fabio Mauri (Rome, 1926–2009), curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio. The show spans four rooms and covers his production from the 1960s to the 2000s. Mauri's work explores the power of language as exploited by political and media forces. A key installation, 'Linguaggio è guerra' (1974), comprises over one hundred photographs and embodies his concept of 'art for legitimate defense' as personal critique. The series 'Le grandi carte' (1994) and the complementary exhibition 'Ariano' (1995) address memory. 'Cina ASIA Nuova' (1996) features a wall of metal suitcases prompting reflection on contemporary history. The exhibition also includes 'Autobiografia come teoria' and Mauri's recurring motif of the word 'fine' (end), which he presents not as negative but as the moment before every possible beginning. The show runs until January 15, 2017.
