Fabio Giampietro's 'Uprise' Installation Transforms Milan Malpensa Airport into Immersive Urban Vision

Fabio Giampietro presents 'Uprise,' a site-specific installation at Milan Malpensa Airport's Porta di Milano, curated by MEET Digital Culture Center under Maria Grazia Mattei's direction. The work transforms the airport transit space into an immersive environment exploring Milan as an unstable organism. Giampietro employs his signature subtractive painting technique on five monumental canvases, creating dense, sculptural surfaces. These paintings are digitally projected into a fluid three-dimensional space on a twelve-meter videowall, establishing a mirror dialogue between analog and digital realms. A sound component by Human Touch with Alessandro Branca evolves from urban mimicry to abstract meditation. The installation is part of the 'Nice to Meet You' program promoted by SEA Aeroporti Milano, coordinated by Chiara Alberghina. Giampietro's two-decade research on vertical tensions and perspective drifts in cities culminates here, where recognizable topography becomes lifting matter in continuous ascension. The airport, a global mobility infrastructure, becomes a suspended space where the city transforms into an unstable image and evolving memory. The work redefines the relationship between body, image, and environment through subtle perceptual discontinuity.
