Fabia Mendoza's Berlin Art Diary: Chronicles of a Muse
Fabia Mendoza, born in Berlin in 1986, is a director, producer, camerawoman, writer, and wife of American artist Ryan Mendoza. Her book 'Berlin Art Diary' (Iemme Edizioni, Naples 2022) recounts dramatic and paradoxical events from her life in the form of a teenage diary, but with the character of a strong and explosive woman. The subtitle 'Chronicles of a Muse' is subverted: Mendoza claims the texts are her liberation from the role of muse, and through them, Ryan became her muse. The book is set in Berlin, which she describes as her homeland, though she loves Naples more. She now lives in Sicily, where she is writing a second book, initially 'Sicily Art Diary', which evolved into a novel with strong autobiographical references but is fiction. Mendoza describes the art market as an international mafia construction, but notes that Italian art world ladies dress better. She plans to film 'The Dating Game' in Sicily to provide work for local youth. The interview was conducted by Mario Bronzino.
