Ezio Gribaudo's Dual Practice as Artist and Publisher Explored at Museion

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Museion in Bolzano presents 'The Weight of The Concrete', a retrospective dedicated to Turin-born artist and publisher Ezio Gribaudo (1929–2022). The exhibition takes its title from a 1968 book published by Edizioni d'Arte Fratelli Pozzo, in which Gribaudo illustrated Adriano Spatola's concrete poetry anthology. The show traces Gribaudo's career through his 'Logogrifi'—enigmas blending writing and figuration, created via embossing on absorbent paper and polystyrene, illuminated by neon, or placed on concrete blocks. A section titled 'Cieli' (1974–1975) features color-printed skies made with typographic inks on paper. Also on view are 'Flani', heat-resistant cardboards used in stereotyping that Gribaudo repurposed as ready-mades by painting over forgotten newspaper layouts. The final section documents his editorial work, including monographs on Bacon, Fontana, Miró, Duchamp, De Chirico, and Man Ray, published through Pozzo and Fabbri Editori. Archival items include an autograph letter from Giorgio de Chirico praising Gribaudo's use of white, and a photograph with Francis Bacon at MoMA.
