Expoziţia Absolvenţilor 2017: New Generation of Cluj School Artists

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The 17th edition of Expoziţia Absolvenţilor, curated by faculty of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca (UAD), is on view at Expo Transilvania until August 7, 2017. The exhibition showcases emerging Transylvanian artists across media including video, photography, design, fashion, graphic art, ceramics, theater, textile, painting, and sculpture. A central hall features Livia Cornelia Moldovan's installation "Pânza Penelopei" (2017) surrounded by paintings by Veronica-Nicoleta Tarcea, Flaviu Mureşan, and Botond Gagyi, whose works blend abstraction and figuration with vibrant colors. Their professor Ioan Sbârciu, initiator of the "Scuola di Cluj," is referenced. The exhibition highlights a revolution in pure painting begun in 1990 after the Romanian Revolution. Notable works include Valentin M. Ionescu's geometric landscape analyses and Teona Toderel's evocative, rainy pieces emphasizing the gaze. The show presents a plural, multisensory creative journey.
