EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival Explores Identity Through Photography

EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival, titled 'Mettersi a nudo,' runs from April 9 to June 2, 2026, presenting temporary indoor and outdoor exhibitions, meetings, projections, and other events. Curated by CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia with artistic direction by Walter Guadagnini, the festival encourages examining the self beyond appearances and questioning relationships between identity and representation, body and image, visible and invisible. Nine portraits of Virginia Oldoini Carignano are displayed under the porticos of Palazzo Carignano, showcasing how the countess constructed her public image in the 19th century. The exhibition 'L’invenzione di sé' features historical works like 'La Contessa di Castiglione' by Mayer & Pierson from 1856-1857, an albumen print from collodion, part of the Album Nigra collection at the Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento Italiano. Contemporary perspectives include Karla Hiraldo Voleau's series 'You Can Have it All' (2019, 2024), with the photograph 'Crash' exploring modern identity themes. The festival's program blends historical and contemporary photography to investigate self-portrayal across eras.
