Exploring Dutch Design Beyond Amsterdam: From Eindhoven to Leeuwarden
A journey through the Netherlands showcases its rich design heritage, beginning in Eindhoven, which is home to the Design Academy (established in 1947, recognized as the best globally) and the 16th edition of Dutch Design Week occurring in late October. The Strijp-S area is filled with design studios, including the complex of Piet Hein Eek. Kazerne presented 'New Icons – Rietveld Now,' featuring creations from Studio Drift, Joost van Bleiswijk, and Marcel Wanders. In Den Bosch, the Stedelijk Museum is hosting a ceramics exhibition celebrating Ettore Sottsass's centenary (running until Jan 7) alongside 'StyleDrive' (until Feb 18). Utrecht's Centraal Museum displays 'Vroeg Droog' (until Dec 3), while Leeuwarden's Princessehof Ceramics Museum boasts the largest collection of Chinese porcelain. Additionally, Amsterdam's deputy mayor Kasja Ollongren has announced a prohibition on new souvenir shops to mitigate mass tourism.
