exhibition · 2026-04-19

From June 2 to July 2, 2010, the Open Space art center in Vienna hosted the exhibition 'Encounters in Relational Geography – Dust, Ashes, Residua,' under the curation of Richard Appignanesi and direction of Gulsen Bal. This showcase highlighted the works of seven artists from Eastern Europe who explored the theme of neo-liberal reconstruction in their region. Featured pieces included Sašo Sedlaček's 'AcDcWc (Merda d´Artista),' Vlad Nancă's photographs of birch brooms, Ranko Bon's online project 'Residua (1976 – 2010),' Isa Rosenberger's video 'ESPIRAL: A Dance of Death,' Zbyněk Baladrán's video essay 'Bookcase,' and the installation 'Naked Freedom' by Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid. The exhibition also connected the Baesi Roma community in Romania with the Arna-Jharna Museum in Rajasthan, referencing Dumitru Budrala's documentary 'Curse of the Hedgehog.'
