Exalt Mausoleum by Jim Caumeron Design: A Space of Elevation in the Philippines

In Muntinlupa, Philippines, Jim Caumeron Design has completed the Exalt mausoleum, a private funerary architecture that challenges conventional design by directing visitors' gaze upward rather than downward. Commissioned while the family patriarch was still alive, the 88-square-meter structure reimagines the spatial language of mourning and remembrance as a place of preparation and elevation. The project, slated for 2026, was curated by Miwa Negoro, with principal architect Jim Caumeron leading the design. The construction was undertaken by A.I.A. Construction, with structural engineering by Arriesgado Engineering and additional consultancy by Idiaz Urbanbuilt. Photographs of the project were captured by Bien Alvarez, and Kohler provided fixtures. The mausoleum's design philosophy inverts traditional funerary architecture, which typically invites contemplation of the ground, instead creating a space that lifts the spirit. This approach transforms the mausoleum from a site of grief into a preparatory space, reflecting a forward-looking attitude toward death and memory.
