Ex Voto: Urban Art and Nature Converge at Rome's Ex Dogana

The exhibition 'Ex Voto,' curated by the collective Ex (Loredana Calvet, Silvia Marsano, Francesca Lacroce) with Tiziano Tancredi, brings together artists from the Ex Dogana studios in Rome around a common theme: nature as a centrifugal, untamable force, inspired by Giacomo Leopardi's 1827 'Dialogo della Natura e di un Islandese.' Despite the modest 23,000 square meters, the show achieves remarkable coherence. Small marble slabs—a homage to the San Lorenzo district and the marble workshops linked to the Complesso del Verano—are embedded into a compact shield-like altar. Works include Andreco's incised rock crystal slabs, Sbagliato's geometric frames, Giannì's energetic beings, Ciredz's clay mountain profiles on bright resins, Puxeddu's minimalist animal figures, Borondo's fragile paintings of upside-down flowers, Tellas's marble triptychs with foliage, Martina Scorcucchi's gothic photographs, and Luca Grimaldi's oil paintings simulating marble and brick with PVC. The exhibition runs at Ex Dogana in Rome.
