Ex Macello Fuorisalone Festival: New Design and Music Event in Milan
Five prominent Milanese cultural organizations—Le Cannibale, APE, PianoB, Mare culturale urbano, and Fuorisalone.it—have launched the first edition of the Ex Macello Fuorisalone Festival, taking place during Milan Design Week 2024 from April 15 to 21. The venue is the Ex Macello, a former slaughterhouse in the Porta Vittoria area, which last year hosted Alcova's itinerant fair. Spanning over 3,800 square meters, the seven-day event will feature international and emerging artists and creatives, blending culture, design, and over 80 hours of music. The Ex Macello, built between 1912 and 1914 by Giannino Ferrini and Giovanni Filippini, covers about 15 hectares and was part of a larger complex including fruit and vegetable markets, a fish market, and the Frigoriferi Milanesi. Decommissioned from the 1990s until 2005, the site is now undergoing an ambitious redevelopment project to become Aria, Milan's first carbon-negative area with affordable housing and mixed-use functions.
