Ex-Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini Opens Bixio Bistrot in Rome
Frida Giannini, former creative director of Gucci, has opened Bixio – Caffè Bistrot in Rome's Monteverde Vecchio district at Via Alessandro Poerio 21. The venue occupies the historic bar Faustini, which had operated since 1935. Giannini, a Roman native, revived the space after learning of its impending closure, driven by childhood memories of breakfasting there. The bistrot serves contemporary Roman cuisine by chef Dario Pompei, featuring dishes like Tegamini (cocotte with egg trippetta or octopus with potatoes and olives) and Scarpette (dips with artisan breads). Interior design by Giannini and architect Nadia Braccioni includes a corten counter, original 1960s Scandinavian tables, Lulli chairs by Carlo Ratti, Venini Murano glass lamps, and Viabizzuno cylinders. A preserved library now displays selected products: Mogi Caffè coffee, Mr.O oil, and Feudi di San Gregorio wines. The name honors Nino Bixio, a Garibaldian figure whose busts adorn nearby Gianicolo gardens. The bistrot seats about 30 inside and 20 in a rear courtyard. Bixio is Giannini's first venture in the food industry.
