Ex-Footballer Alfie Whiteman Opens Solo Photo Exhibition 'A Loan'

exhibition · 2026-05-11

Alfie Whiteman, former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, has opened his first solo photography exhibition, 'A Loan', at Oof Gallery in Tottenham, London, running until 27 September. The show features self-portraits taken in 2021 while he was on loan to Swedish club Degerfors, living in rural woodlands. Whiteman, who retired from football at age 26 after 15 years at Tottenham, turned to photography as a creative outlet during a period of uncertainty. The series of over 600 images explores vulnerability, loneliness, and self-doubt, with surreal and uncanny scenes set in sparse interiors and natural landscapes. Influenced by Jeff Wall, Alex Prager, Gregory Crewdson, and Nadia Lee Cohen, Whiteman constructs staged tableaux that deliberately avoid football references. He is now signed to production company Somesuch as a photographer and director.
