Ex-COMAC Factory in Soverato Transforms into Creative Hub
The former COMAC factory in Soverato, Calabria, once a wholesale lumber and construction materials facility, has been repurposed into a unique creative hub. Granted by the municipality of Soverato to the Superbo Association, the 1,500-square-meter roofless structure—with interior walls over four meters high, a lateral outdoor space, a flowerbed, and an external courtyard—has been hosting exhibitions, installations, performances, a music festival, a street food festival, and a marketplace from July 1 to September 1. Among upcoming events, on July 30 and 31, international illustrators Jonathan Calugi and Ray Oranges will create murals on two indoor walls, exploring free expression and the creative potential of error. They describe their process as a "jam session" where form leads to line and line to harmony, akin to free jazz unconstrained by commercial considerations.
