Ex-Cinema Bologna becomes anti-mafia hub ExtraLibera in Rome
ExtraLibera, a multimedia center on anti-mafia struggles, opened last autumn in Rome in the former Cinema Teatro Bologna, designed by engineer Riccardo Morandi. The space, managed by Libera association founded by Don Luigi Ciotti, has already hosted over 3,500 students. The cinema was built between 1947 and 1949, seating over 1,500. After closing in 2003 and being confiscated in 2014 for bankruptcy fraud, it was assigned to Libera in 2020. Renovation began in 2021 by abc.lab architettura e progettazione (Tommaso and Luca Berretta) with other technicians. The project includes a multimedia exhibition, conference rooms, and Libera's new Rome headquarters with a library. It was featured in Open House Roma.
