Evolutio Exhibition at Ara Pacis Celebrates 120 Years of Italian Infrastructure

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Ara Pacis Museum in Rome opens 'Evolutio – Building the future for the last 120 years' on October 8, tracing Italy's technological and infrastructural evolution since the early 1900s. Promoted by construction giant Webuild, the exhibition spans six thematic areas curated by Leftloft and The Buss, blending historical and contemporary photography, immersive installations, and archival testimonies. It highlights milestones in energy (from 1930), water systems (from 1940), metro transport (from 1950), and post-war urban development (from 1960), alongside highway and high-speed rail revolutions (from 1970). A section on 'saper fare' (know-how) showcases Webuild's global projects and the workers behind them. The show is bilingual (Italian/English) and free. Concurrently, the Digital Museum Evolutio launches online, featuring hundreds of works, photo galleries, videos, interactive maps, and educational content. Webuild CEO Pietro Salini and Capitoline Superintendent Claudio Parisi Presicce contributed statements. The exhibition runs at the Ara Pacis Museum.
