Evident Scientific Announces Winners of 6th Image of the Year Award

Evident Scientific, a company specializing in microscopes, has revealed the winners of its 6th Image of the Year Award, which honors outstanding scientific microscopic imagery. The global accolade goes to Katie Holden from the United Kingdom for her depiction of neurospheres derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, illustrating the self-organization of neuronal cells into structures that reflect the intricate layering of the human brain. As part of her prize, she will receive either an Evident SZX7 stereo microscope and DP23 digital camera or a collection of X Line UPLXAPO objectives. Muhammad Tahir Khan from Ireland secured the Materials Science category with an image of lignin fiber resembling orange-purple sand dunes. Regional winners include Igor Siwanowicz (Americas), Gerd Günther (Europe, Middle East, Africa), and Kentaro Mochizuki (Asia-Pacific). Submissions were assessed by a panel of experts from 34 countries, with honorable mentions for various images, including a jumping spider and zebrafish brain.
