Everyday Secrets: A Group Show on Intimacy and Memory at Luce Gallery, Turin

Curated by Mosie Romney, the group exhibition 'Everyday Secrets' at Luce Gallery in Turin delves into themes of memory instability, the physical body, and the enclosing world. Romney, who also participates as an artist, describes the show as an artistic 'therapy session' where each voice contributes to the overall picture. The exhibition features works by Sydney Elexis Vernon, Chris Lloyd, Bony Ramirez, Curtis Talwst Santiago, and Collins Obijiaku. Vernon's complex portraits mix collage, oil painting, serigraphy, and charcoal, drawing from family photo albums to question specific moments in her family history within its socio-cultural context. Lloyd's figures engage in a poetic confrontation with the physical self. Ramirez and Santiago straddle the real and surreal; Ramirez's figures are deliberately deformed, narrating Caribbean daily life and history through allegory and physicality, while Santiago's compositions evoke enigmatic places where matter moves with vigorous emotion and spirituality breaks free. Obijiaku's subjects confront the viewer with a strong, confident gaze. Romney's own two new works employ découpage to anchor memory and the subconscious in material references.
