Evelyn Taocheng Wang's First Solo Exhibition in Italy at Museion, Bolzano

Evelyn Taocheng Wang (born 1981, Chengdu, China) presents her first solo exhibition in Italy, "Sweet Landscape," at Museion in Bolzano, running until November 8, 2026. Curated by Leonie Radine, the show features new works created specifically for the venue, drawing inspiration from the local landscape, markets, and multilingual culture of South Tyrol. Wang's practice is deeply influenced by literature, particularly Virginia Woolf's "A Room of One's Own" and the writings of Eileen Chang, whose focus on everyday life and marginalized voices informs Wang's exploration of language, body, and identity. The exhibition includes paintings, collages, garments, and a recreation of her earlier project "Massage Parlor" (2016, Kunstmuseum Bonn), where she offered real massages to visitors, based on her own experience working as a masseuse in the Netherlands. Wang's work often incorporates diary-like texts and conversations, addressing themes of migration, gender, and labor. Her pieces at Museion feature motifs from Bolzano's markets, vegetables, snow mountains, and references to art history (e.g., Giuseppe Castiglione, Agnes Martin, August Macke). Materials range from canvas and oil to silk, Xuan paper, and even a Max Mara coat. Wang is represented by Antenna Space, Shanghai, and Carlos/Ishikawa, London.
