Eva Jospin's 'Microclima' Greenhouse Installation on Max Mara Rooftop in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

French artist Eva Jospin (b. 1975) has created 'Microclima,' a permanent site-specific installation atop the Max Mara flagship store in Piazza del Liberty, Milan. The work consists of a 19th-century-style glass and metal greenhouse housing a mysterious landscape of sculpted cardboard, featuring vegetal elements on a mineral substrate. The installation, which won a prize launched by the fashion house in collaboration with the Collezione Maramotti, explores the relationship between the store's interior and the open terrace overlooking the city square, prompting reflection on new perceptions of space—both natural and poetic. The cardboard reliefs depict tropical and desert-like scenes, with cellulose sculptures immersed in a scent developed by Jospin in partnership with perfumer Julien Rasquinet. The piece is accessible to the public during store hours, with entrance from Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Jospin, known for her patient work with recycled materials, often evokes primitive natural elements like caves and forests in her installations. Max Mara describes her forests as 'primordial elements of research and knowledge, as well as possible mental escape, disorientation—a place to get lost and, perhaps, find oneself.' In 2023, Jospin was also invited by Maison Ruinart for its Carte Blanche program, creating 'Promenade(s)' from March 8–12, inspired by the Champagne region and the brand's history.
