Eva Jospin's Giant Tapestry 'Chambre de soie' at Versailles
Eva Jospin's monumental tapestry 'Chambre de soie' is on view at the Orangerie of the Palace of Versailles until September 29, 2024. The 105-meter-long hand-embroidered work was created by artisans from the Chanakya workshop and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, India. It was originally used as the backdrop for Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior haute couture fall/winter 2021/2022 show at the Musée Rodin in Paris. For the Versailles exhibition, Jospin added a new panel inspired by the Apollo's Baths Grove, redesigned in the late 18th century by painter and landscape artist Hubert Robert. The work is inspired by the Sala del Ricamo of Palazzo Colonna in Rome and Virginia Woolf's 1929 novel 'A Room of One's Own'. Jospin's exhibition continues Versailles' tradition of contemporary art interventions, following Jeff Koons in 2008 and Olafur Eliasson in 2016.
