Eva Jospin's Cardboard Forests at Pièce Unique

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Eva Jospin, born in 1975 and based in Paris, creates intricate forest landscapes from cardboard. After moving to a new studio, she turned to the abundant material of packing boxes, initially basing her reliefs on press photographs. Her works, such as a devastated cemetery with Christ and soldiers or a father teaching his son to shoot, evolved into imaginary forests without photographic references. These layered cardboard pieces produce a stereoscopic effect, drawing viewers into dense, infinite woods. Jospin's technique involves cutting and layering cardboard to create depth, with each detail remaining at the edge of credibility—leaves are scarred cardboard, branches are beveled strips. She describes the material as resisting precision, constraining virtuosity. Her solo exhibition at Galerie Pièce Unique in Paris runs from March 31 to June 5, 2011. She also participates in the group show "Rehab" at Espace Fondation EDF until March 6, 2011, and has a work at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. Previous group shows include "Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear" at Fondation nationale des arts graphiques in 2009.
