Eva Jospin and Romain Bernini Lead Group Show in Paris Before Demolition
A group exhibition titled 'Voyage au centre de la terre' runs from March 9 to 25, 2018, at 7 rue de Tolbiac in Paris, in a building slated for demolition in two months. Curated by Jérôme Sans, the show presents works by eight artists who used the space as a studio over the past year, forming a spontaneous community. The ground floor features Eva Jospin's monumental cardboard forest 'La Traversée,' evoking an Italian grotto, which will later be permanently installed in a Parisian passage near Boulevard Raspail. Romain Bernini's psychedelic paintings, including the series 'Gran Bwas,' depict imaginary virgin forests inspired by Parisian photographs. Bruno Perramant presents flower paintings arranged as a whimsical garden, while Jennyfer Grassi explores floral forms in paint and plaster. Upstairs, Pierre Seinturier creates an intimate space with faux-wood wallpaper, referencing American pop culture and Elvis. Lucie Picandet shows abstract paintings representing the brain. Khalil Joreige and Johana Hadjithomas display geological core samples from archaeological sites at Musée de Cluny and the Louvre, part of their work that won the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2017. The exhibition is supported by developer Laurent Dumas, founder of Emerige, who is preparing his future foundation on Île Seguin, also directed by Jérôme Sans.
