EVA International Biennial Confronts Ireland's Social Divisions Through 56 Artists in Limerick

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The 38th EVA International commenced in Limerick City on April 14, 2018, and will continue until July 8. Curated by Inti Guerrero, the event showcases 56 artists across five different venues, along with a satellite exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art located in Dublin. Central to the exhibition is Seán Keating's painting Night's Candles Are Burnt Out, created between 1928 and 1929, which reflects Ireland's intricate ties to modernity. This biennial also tackles the issue of Ireland's Eighth Amendment, compelling women to travel abroad for abortions, with activist banners and video testimonies underscoring the matter. Featured works include Sanja Iveković's Lady Rosa of Luxembourg, Rita Duffy's Siege I and II, and Inji Efflatoun's les diablesrouges, linking state power with human impact.
