Eva & Franco Mattes at Pavia's Ctrl+Alt Museum: 1 MB Line
On October 26, 2024, the Ctrl+Alt Museum in Pavia, Italy, opens '1 MB Line', an exhibition by the pioneering Net Art duo Eva & Franco Mattes. Organized by Progetto Ludovico, the non-profit founded in Milan by collector Lorenzo Perini Natali in 2021, the show marks the organization's first expansion outside Milan. Under the artistic direction of Camilla Previ and with a critical text by Giovanna Manzotti, the installation engages with the museum's collection of historic computers—from the Olivetti Programma 101 (1966-71) to early Apple models—creating a dialogue on how the internet and computing reshape daily life and personal relationships. The exhibition includes a new large-scale installation built using the museum's own computers, realizing a work conceived years ago. The Ctrl+Alt Museum, founded in 2022 by Alessio Scipione, Beppe Leone, and Dino Baldi, is housed in a restored former cotton mill and features rare, functioning devices. Progetto Ludovico, which has previously collaborated with Milan's Casa degli Artisti and Cittadella degli Archivi, continues its focus on art that engages with industry and technology. The exhibition runs through December 15, 2024, with free admission on weekdays.
