Eva Elisa Fabbris appointed director of Museo Madre in Naples

institutional · 2026-04-27

Eva Elisa Fabbris has been named the new director of the Museo Madre in Naples, succeeding Australian Kathryn Weir, who was appointed in 2020 during the pandemic under president Laura Valente. Fabbris's appointment comes nearly a year after Angela Tecce became president of the Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee. Her project was selected unanimously by a commission comprising Angela Tecce, Letizia Magaldi, Achille Bonito Oliva, Adam Weinberg (Alice Pratt Brown Director of the Whitney Museum of American Art), and Anna Mattirolo, from a shortlist that included Lorenza Baroncelli, Maria Chiara Bertola, Antonio Cataldo, Milovan Farronato, and Fabbris herself. Born in 1979, Fabbris brings experience from Fondazione Prada, Galleria Civica di Trento, and Museion in Bolzano. She teaches at NABA in Milan and has contributed to Mousse Magazine, Cura, and Flash Art. Her research focuses on critical heterodoxy in Modernism, including Marcel Duchamp's curatorial practice, Gene R. Swenson's historiography, and a study on pataphysics that won the 10th edition of Italian Council in 2021. She previously collaborated on the exhibition "Diego Marcon. The Parents’ Room" at the Madre with Andrea Viliani. The foundation has granted her a three-year mandate.
