Eva Brioschi Discusses Air, Freedom, and Henri Chopin on Artribune Podcast

other · 2026-04-27

Eva Brioschi, curator and art critic, explores the concept of air and its relationship to freedom in the Artribune podcast series "Rubriche d'aria" curated by Juan Pablo Macías and Alessandra Poggianti. She discusses how bodies interact with air and focuses on the work of French artist Henri Chopin (Paris, 1922). In the 1950s, Chopin received a magnetometer as a gift and began experimenting with language, working with phonemes, voice, and the body. His electronically captured voice becomes a total sensory experience, aiming for freedom as a reaction to logocentrism. Brioschi states that fear pervades the current historical period, distancing and transforming physicality and identity, while Chopin refuses to subject life's power to anything, especially words. She describes his new non-semantic language as a form of free and universal communication that can help create a new, free world. Brioschi has collaborated with Archivio Casorati in Turin, Museo Alvar Aalto, and is currently curator of Collezione La Gaia. She curated Moving Tales (Cuneo 2016, Mousse Publishing 2016), The Corners / In Between at Galleria Norma Mangione (2017), and Landon Metz at Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare. She wrote for Carico Massimo's publication on Hans Schabus (2017) and recently curated the exhibition and catalog Open Work for ArteFiera Bologna and Henri Chopin. Body Sound Space at Quartz Studio, Turin (2020).
