Eurovision 2022 in Turin draws inspiration from Italian gardens and cymatics
The 66th Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Turin in May 2022, has adopted the theme 'The Sound of Beauty.' The visual identity is inspired by cymatics—the study of visible sound wave patterns—and the symmetrical layouts of Italian Renaissance gardens, such as those at the Reggia di Venaria. The custom typeface 'Arsenica,' designed by Francesco Canovaro for Zetafonts with contributions from Mario De Libero, Andrea Tartarelli, and Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, draws from early 20th-century advertising posters by artists like Giorgio Muggiani and Marcello Dudovich, blending Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences. Turin won the hosting bid in October 2021 after Italian rock band Måneskin won the 65th edition in Rotterdam on May 22, 2021.
