European Museum Night 2018: Artribune's Weekend Picks

The European Museum Night and Museum Festival return on May 19-20, 2018, with evening openings at symbolic €1 entry across Italy, aiming to engage Italians with cultural heritage. In Rome, MAXXI will open from 8 PM to 1 AM, featuring permanent collection 'THE PLACE TO BE' and temporary shows: 'Home Beirut. Sounding The Neighbors' with 36 artists, architects, filmmakers, and activists; 'Blackout. Allora & Calzadilla' on Puerto Rico's history; 'Gli architetti di Zevi' on Italian architecture 1944-2000; and 'Tel Aviv The White City' and 'Miltos Manetas. Internet Paintings.' In Naples, MADRE museum stays open until 11 PM with free guided tours: 'Silent visit_Pompei@Madre' led by Carlo Infante of Urban Experience, and 'Musica ad Arte' exploring art-music connections via Warhol, Beuys, Bowie, Iggy Pop. At Venice's Gallerie dell'Accademia, the Palladian wing and temporary show 'Canova, Hayez e Cicognara. L’ultima gloria di Venezia' will be open until 10:15 PM, with free guided tours at 7:20, 8:00, 8:40, and 9:20 PM. Milan's Pinacoteca di Brera offers 'DisegnaBrera: La sfida' drawing game, open 6 PM to 10:15 PM. The Royal Palace of Caserta, designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for Charles of Bourbon in 1750, opens 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM, housing the 'Terrae Motus' collection of 1980s art established after the Irpinia earthquake.
