European Museum Academy Launches Art Museum Award for European Museums and Galleries
The European Museum Academy, a foundation based in The Hague established in 2009 on the tenth anniversary of museologist Kenneth Hudson's death, has launched the Art Museum Award. This new prize recognizes European museums and galleries for innovative, pioneering, and creative projects addressing contemporary social challenges. It joins existing EMA awards such as the European Museum Academy Prize, Luigi Micheletti Award, DASA Award, Heritage in Motion Award, and Master Study of the Year Award. The award focuses on the role of museums as socially relevant meeting places, especially during crises, and evaluates candidates on criteria including social justice, participation, inclusion, gender equality, racial justice, community building, sustainability, resilience, and innovation. An international jury of museum experts will select winners. EMA president Karl Borromäus Murr stated that museums and galleries can support social change through dialogue, awareness, inclusion, and accessibility. The award aims to promote awareness of museums' social role and stimulate debate on their societal impact. Museums and galleries must submit applications by March 31 via www.artmuseumaward.eu. The award ceremony will take place in September, with the winner receiving a trophy and access to EMA's communication network for promotion.
