European firms' confidence in China rebounds for first time since 2022

economy-finance · 2026-05-27

For the first time since 2022, European businesses are beginning to regain confidence in the Chinese market, as a recent survey indicates that Beijing is viewed as a stabilizing force amid global uncertainties. Released on Wednesday by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the annual Business Confidence Survey revealed that the decline in confidence regarding China's business landscape has lessened among its members over the past year. Of the more than 500 European companies surveyed, fewer than half (down from 52% last year) believed that the business environment had become more politicized. Although 68% of respondents noted that conditions had worsened, this was an improvement from the previous year's record high of 73%. Firms expressed more optimism about future growth and profitability.
