European Design Stories: Behind-the-Scenes Video Installation at Palazzo Clerici

At Palazzo Clerici (Atelier Clerici) in Milan, the Brera Design District hosts European Design Stories: Reflection of Contemporary Design in European Countries, a video installation running until April 17, 2016. The project, managed by Andrea Štokrová with a creative team including Adam Štěch, Jan Kloss, Matěj Činčera, Tomáš Souček, Jan Rybák, and Darina Zavadilová, documents two years of research across European countries. The team traveled hundreds of kilometers visiting workshops, design studios, and over thirty entities—designers, companies, and projects—to film interviews and testimonials revealing the behind-the-scenes process of successful design projects. In a darkened room, videos are projected onto a facade of stacked white cardboard volumes, creating an illusion of three-dimensionality. Seating is provided for visitors to watch stories about Carlo Mollino, the Bus stop project in the Austrian countryside, architectural experiments at the Vals thermal baths in Switzerland, and the duo Zanellato/Bortolotto with their case histories Sofa for Marlo & Isaure Le Sacre and Sofa for Korean Market Mosaic Carpet. A 300-page catalog is available for browsing under a single lit lamp.
