Eugenio Tibaldi creates permanent artwork for Rebibbia women's prison
Eugenio Tibaldi (Alba, 1977) has been commissioned to create a site-specific permanent artwork for the Casa Circondariale Femminile di Rebibbia in Rome, curated by Marcello Smarrelli. The project is organized by Fondazione Pastificio Cerere and Fondazione Severino, with support from Intesa Sanpaolo. The work will be inaugurated in December 2025, coinciding with the Giubileo dei Detenuti. The creative process includes workshops for female inmates, using drawing to share experiences and emotions. This follows a previous project at Rebibbia by Fabrizio Sartori (Roma, 1980), curated by Giuliana Benass, held from February to March 2024. Paola Severino, president of Fondazione Severino, stated that the artwork aims to evoke hope for rebirth and contribute to redemption and inner freedom, aligning with the values of the 2025 Jubilee. The initiative began in 2022 when the two foundations started bringing contemporary art projects to Rebibbia to engage inmates through creativity.
