Eugenio Barba's Living Archive Opens in Lecce

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The inauguration of The Living Archive Floating Islands, honoring Eugenio Barba (born 1936), the founder of Odin Teatret, will take place at Biblioteca Bernardini in Lecce. Occupying more than 600 square meters within the historic Convitto Palmieri, this archive is a joint effort by Fondazione Barba Valery and Regione Puglia. It comprises three distinct sections: a digitized collection of over 5,000 theater books related to Barba; a multimedia overview of Odin Teatret's sixty-year journey; and interactive elements focusing on the Third Theatre. Barba, alongside Luigi De Luca, highlighted the archive's significance in evolving theatrical heritage into a dynamic form of expression, fostering dialogue and showcasing the richness of contemporary theatre.
