Eugenio Barba and Odin Teatret to Perform at San Maurizio d'Opaglio

Eugenio Barba, the 80-year-old Italian founder of Denmark's Odin Teatret, will be a guest of Teatro delle Selve in San Maurizio d'Opaglio, Novara province, on May 7-8. Barba, a director, theorist, and writer who has received dozens of awards worldwide, has led the ensemble since 1964. The group comprises members from all continents and has created 74 performances staged in 63 countries. Barba will be accompanied by longtime actress Julia Varley. The program includes a masterclass, the performance 'Ave Maria', and a work demonstration titled 'Il fratello morto'. Barba describes 'Ave Maria' as evoking his encounter and friendship with Chilean actress María Cánepa, celebrating her creative fantasy and dedication after her death. In 'Il fratello morto', Varley traces the construction of an Odin Teatret performance, showing the interaction between text, actor, and director, from the performer's initial creation of presence to the final form.
