Ettore Spalletti's Fontana Restored in Pescara After 22 Years
Ettore Spalletti's monumental sculpture Fontana, installed in 2004 in the piazzale of the Palazzo di Giustizia in Pescara, has been restored. The meticulous restoration began in January 2024 and concluded with a public unveiling ceremony on May 27, 2025. The event drew a large crowd, including Mayor Carlo Masci, President of the Tribunal Luigi Cirillo, and gallerist Lia Rumma. The restoration was a collaborative effort involving the Comune di Pescara, the Ministry of Justice, the Fondazione Ettore Spalletti, and private patrons. The work, an ellipsis of 15 by 9 meters in Zimbabwe black absolute granite, features a central azure fountain and a perpetual water veil that reflects the sky. Critic Danilo Eccher compared Spalletti's geometric purity to Antonello da Messina's 1475 Crucifixion. The ceremony included a concert by the Colibrì Ensemble.
