Ettore Spalletti's 'Fontana' restored at Pescara courthouse

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-28

On May 27, 2026, Ettore Spalletti's 'Fontana' was unveiled after restoration at the Palazzo di Giustizia di Pescara. The restoration began in January 2024. The event was promoted by the Tribunale di Pescara and Mayor Carlo Masci, introduced by journalist Luca Telese, and attended by critic Danilo Eccher and Patrizia Leonelli Spalletti, president of the Fondazione Ettore Spalletti. The Colibrì Ensemble performed. The fountain, inaugurated in 2004 following a 2003 competition, is a 15x9 meter ellipse of Zimbabwe black absolute granite with a thin water film flowing over it from an azure basin, featuring a pink onyx form. Spalletti called it 'a mirror of water that recalls the light of the city.' The restoration was a public-private partnership between the Comune di Pescara, the Ministero della Giustizia, and private donors. Spalletti (1940–2019), born in Cappelle sul Tavo, is a major Italian postwar artist. This is one of his few permanent public works.
