Ettore Sottsass's Glass Works at Le Stanze del Vetro in Venice
Le Stanze del Vetro on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice hosts "Ettore Sottsass: il vetro," a major exhibition curated by Luca Massimo Barbero. The show features 220 pieces, many from the collection of Ernest Mourmans, tracing the designer and architect's unconventional relationship with glass. Spanning seven rooms and a corridor, the exhibition highlights Sottsass's (1917-2017) approach to Murano glass traditions, from 1980s Memphis series with bold colors and free volumes to the Esercizi rooted in marble bases, ironic Kachina in glass paste and plastic, and sculptures for the Millenium House in Doha. The exhibition is organized by Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung, covering seventy years of experimentation against forced notions of "good taste."
