Ettore Sottsass Returns to Filicudi with Seaside Exhibition

Studio Casoli has opened a solo exhibition dedicated to Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) in the small gallery on the sea in Pecorini, Filicudi, where the architect and designer spent summers for 26 years. The show presents a selection of works from the 1960s onward, including lamps designed for Artemide (such as the Hera model, reissued at Salone del Mobile this year), the Dioniso mirror, the Torno subito superbox, and the Tartar console (1985) for Memphis. Also on view are black-and-white photographs Sottsass took on the island with his Leica, capturing light, minimal architecture, and ancient stones. The exhibition, curated by Emilie Ryan, explores Sottsass's view of design as a ritual act. It strengthens a relationship between Studio Casoli and Sottsass that began in 2001 with a Milan exhibition. The show runs alongside the island's natural beauty; later in the season, the gallery will feature German artist Kai Altoff.
