Ettore Favini installs literary plaques across Parma's historic center

publication · 2026-05-04

On September 29, Parma, Italy, saw the installation of eight cement plaques featuring literary quotes, part of Ettore Favini's initiative Nouvelle Flâneries. This marks the concluding phase of Favini's involvement in Parma Capitale della Cultura 2020. Previously, in 2019, he had placed similar plaques in ten different spots throughout the historic center, with the latest additions adorning buildings like the Complesso Monumentale delle Pilotta. Each plaque encapsulates a piece of a "collective storytelling" about Parma, drawing on the words of notable figures such as Charles Dickens, Francesco Goya, Giacomo Casanova, and others. Central to the project is the theme of the flâneur, the aimless wanderer. Organizers have termed this endeavor a gift to the city and its inhabitants, with a downloadable map from the cultural association Others available for visitors to explore this narrative.
