Estorick Collection to Showcase Italian Photography Pioneers Wanda and Marion Wulz

In September, London’s Estorick Collection will host a significant exhibition honoring the groundbreaking contributions of sisters Wanda Wulz (1903–1984) and Marion Wulz (1905–1993), who were instrumental in the evolution of avant-garde photography in 20th-century Italy. This exhibition, created in partnership with the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia and backed by the Calliope Arts Foundation, also explores the lasting impact of the Wulz family’s photographic legacy, which spans several generations. In 1928, the sisters took over the photography studio established by their grandfather, Giuseppe Wulz, and later managed by their father, Carlo. Immersed in photography from childhood, they transformed the studio in Trieste into a dynamic hub for artistic and commercial endeavors, serving a varied clientele, including artists and actors. The exhibition seeks to emphasize their significant yet often overlooked contributions to photography. The Estorick Collection, renowned for its dedication to modern Italian art, serves as a fitting venue for showcasing the Wulz sisters' innovative approaches and their influence on the photographic avant-garde.
