ESH Hotel & Spa by FAMM Arquitectura and Sulkin Askenazi Opens in Nosara, Costa Rica

architecture-design · 2026-08-07

The ESH Hotel & Spa, a 29-room hotel development designed by FAMM Arquitectura and Sulkin Askenazi, has opened on a sloped site in Nosara, Costa Rica. The project, completed in 2024, covers 3,700 square meters and was led by principal architects Mariano Mesalles and Felipe Apéstegui, with interior design by Sulkin Askenazi. The design challenge was to create a destination hotel on a property with limited distant views. Instead of focusing on a panorama, the architects built an internal landscape from the site itself, preserving trees, a natural stream, and incorporating landscaped courtyards, water features, and shaded outdoor spaces as primary orientation points throughout the hotel. The project falls under the category of hospitality and entertainment, specifically hotels. Photographs were taken by Thibault Cartier. The article was curated by Valentina Díaz and originally published in English on ArchDaily.
