Escher Exhibition Moves from Milan to Madrid's Palacio de Gaviria

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Arthemisia, an Italian exhibition producer, has brought the Maurits Cornelis Escher exhibition from Palazzo Reale in Milan to the Palacio de Gaviria in Madrid. The palace, built between 1846 and 1848 for banker Manuel Gaviria y Souza, was designed by architect Annibale Álvarez Bouquel in neo-Renaissance style and inaugurated in 1851. After decades of neglect and use as a nightclub until 2008-09, it has been restored as a venue. The exhibition features over 200 works selected by Mark Veldhuysen of the Escher Company and collector Federico Giudiceandrea. Highlights include "Hand with Reflecting Sphere," "Relativity," and "Three Worlds." Arthemisia president Jole Siena noted the company's expansion into Spain, with plans for Berlin next. The show runs until June 25, 2017.
