Es Devlin's 'The Everythingists' Opens at V&A East Storehouse

exhibition · 2026-04-29

Es Devlin's latest installation, 'The Everythingists' (2026), has debuted at the V&A East Storehouse in London and will be on display until 18 October. This piece interacts with Natalia Goncharova's iconic 'Firebird' backdrop (1926), which was initially designed for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Curated by Madeleine Haddon, Senior Curator at V&A East, this installation is part of a rotating series featuring artists like Tania Bruguera, Lawrence Lek, and Carrie Mae Weems. Devlin's diverse work includes 'Library of Light' (2025) in Milan and 'Library of Us' (2025) in Miami. The installation showcases sound design by Polyphonia and choreography by Botis Seva, with performer Joshua Shanny-Wynter. The space transforms every ninety seconds with light, narration, and a soundtrack that includes Stravinsky's 'Firebird Suite' motif. It also references Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov's 1913 'Rayonist Manifesto' and Cory Doctorow's centaur frameworks. The V&A East Storehouse, part of the broader V&A East initiative, redefines museum storage as a public, choreographed environment, similar to Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
