Es Devlin launches collective digital portrait at National Portrait Gallery

exhibition · 2026-05-11

Es Devlin, in partnership with Google Arts & Culture Lab, has introduced A National Portrait, an interactive digital art installation at the National Portrait Gallery in London. This initiative, which opens on 14 May 2026 and continues until 27 October 2026, encourages residents of the UK to submit selfies that will be transformed into animated digital portraits reflecting Devlin's artistic style. These contributions will form a collective portrait exhibited in the gallery, and participants will receive a downloadable version. Additionally, a free public drawing event led by Devlin is scheduled for 14 May, along with online drawing classes. The gallery will also offer free Drop-In Drawing sessions on 12 June, 3 July, 4 September, and 2 October 2026, concluding with a session by Devlin.
