Eryk Rocha's documentary 'Cinema Novo' secured the Golden Eye award for best documentary at the Festival de Cannes in May. The film debuted in Brazil on Thursday, 3, featuring over 130 clips and audio excerpts that delve into the Brazilian film movement. During Cannes, Rocha, the son of renowned filmmaker Glauber Rocha, voiced his opposition to Michel Temer's interim government and the dissolution of the Ministry of Culture, labeling it a 'tragic moment.' In a subsequent interview, he elaborated on the film's narrative approach and highlighted prominent figures such as Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Ruy Guerra. Rocha noted the extensive nine-month editing phase and the film's intention to address contemporary political issues. A screening for Cinema Novo filmmakers is scheduled at the Festival do Rio.
